About the Book

After the success of Felt-Tip Pens and Colored Pencils: A Self-Study Guide (2007) and the Self-Study Guide to Drawing with Colored Pencils (2016), readers began asking for a separate, in-depth book devoted to felt-tip drawing tools. In 2021, the Self-Study Guide to Drawing with Markers, Fineliners, and Felt-Tip Pens was published, revealing the creative potential of these underrated materials.

Illustrations in the Book

The Self-Study Guide to Drawing with Markers, Fineliners, and Felt-Tip Pens features work by both the author and her students. At first, Olga Shmatova did not always credit the illustrations, believing that readers would intuitively be able to tell professional work from student work.

However, the quality of the drawings made by students under Olga's guidance turned out to be so high that even experienced artists could not always identify the author with confidence. This is brilliant proof that Olga Shmatova's method allows beginners to achieve impressive results.

At the same time, to avoid confusion, student works in later editions were marked with a special symbol — a white smiley face. This way, readers can give the author's mastery its due while also appreciating her students' achievements.
